Tailoring
training for women is one of the most common phenomenons in
our country. Being a women friendly and marketable trade,
training in this trade is in high demand amongst women.
There are thousands of women who have benefited through this
training. The story of these four people is no exception.
However, their success reflects much more than just economic
independence. Their success is an example of team work and
empowerment.
Prabha Chaudhary, Shiva Chaudhari, Sushila Yogi and Sunita
Ghartimagar lead an ordinary life. Their lives revolved
around their house and the farm. The income from agriculture
was merely sufficient to run the family. When they heard
about the Tailoring training being conducted by SKILL as a
franchisee of F-SKILL at Lamahi, they decided to join the
program. They looked at this program as an opportunity that
would enhance their living standard. They travelled 8-10 kms
a day to training site. There was no questioning about the
effort they put into learning the skill. Looking back, every
single effort paid off.
These people could have stayed in their own villages,
probably opened a shop in their own house and used the
imparted skill in stitching clothes for their family
members, relatives and neighbours. By doing so, they would
have definitely saved as well as made some money. But this
wasn’t all that they longed for. They wanted to make
tailoring their profession and they were determined to move
their business competently. Each one was lucky to have found
a partner in their friend with the same vision. The first
thing they did was identify a market area where they could
open their shop and cater to a larger clientele. The place
identified was far away from their respective villages. The
next step was going to be a bigger leap for them. They had
to live away from home and on their own for the first time.
The very fact that the four of them would be together as a
team helped them overcome this apprehension as well as
managed to convince their families.
Milan Tailor lies in the heart of a buzzing and populated
Chandraota bazaar in Kapilvastu. Their business is doing
well and they make good income out of it. Their ability to
deliver quality work on time has accelerated the goodwill of
their shop. The weakness of one is overcome by the strength
of another. It is the combination of four skillful hands
that has them heading towards the pathway of success. They
live in a rented room at Chandraota. With the income, they
have been able to meet their daily expenditure as well as
save some amount. They have also invested in equipments for
the shop.
When asked about the difference the training program had on
them they say that the various designing aspect they learnt
gave them the confidence to open a shop in a market area.
The very fact that they managed to muster courage to leave
their house, live on their own and make a living for oneself
as well as support their families is an enormous boon they
could have ever asked for.
