Oli Refrigerator Workshop –
Gives me Name, Fame and Income
Buddhi
Bahadur Oli-30, lives in Basudevpur – 5, Banke. He left his
school in grade 7. Due to poor economic condition at home,
he had to leave his studies and start working from an early
age. He worked as a helper to house wiring electrician.
However, with the meager income he made as an assistant, he
could not support his family well. He wanted to upgrade his
skill by taking training but upgrading training in
electrical subject was expensive and mostly comprised of
long term training programs.
One day he heard that SKILL-Nepal was going to conduct
Refrigeration and AC Junior Mechanic training in
Manikapur-5, Bhujaigaun for youth who had not completed
their S.L.C, those with weak economic condition and from
disadvantaged community. He filled up the application form,
appeared for the interview and having fulfilled all the
criteria, he was selected for the training program.
Learning refrigeration and AC repair and maintenance in a
short time was not an easy task but he put in extra effort
because he knew that even if he could afford to pay, he was
not going to find any private training institute who offered
this subject. Besides, availability of few people with such
skill and rapid modernization of towns, the demand for
refrigerator and AC mechanic was high. There was huge market
and a lot of money for this skill.
The training course encouraged him to start his own
business. As planned he opened a refrigerator and AC
maintenance workshop namely Oli Refrigerator Workshop in
Basudevpur-5, Banke. In the beginning investment was a big
problem for him and taking loan was the only solution he
saw. So, he took a loan of amount Rs.200,000/- from Holika
saving and cooperatives at interest rate of 18% to invest in
his workshop. He had never taken such a big risk before but
his knowledge and hard work paid off. He makes a net profit
of Rs. 10,000 per month. He has finished repaying his loan.
With the income he makes, he is now able to take good care
of his family. He has also been able to provide employment
for five other unemployed youths thereby contributing in
eliminating unemployment from the country.
