At
a tender age of twelve when most of the children spend their
times playing with dolls, Laxmi had needles and wool at her
disposal. Responsibility outgrew her childhood and it is no
wonder that you notice a strong woman adorned with a fatigue
countenance.
Laxmi knew that life was tough but she had learnt the art of
survival well. After coming back from school she would keep
her books on her lap to study and simultaneously, she would
knit for export houses because her family needed money. Ever
since she has worked in various places and has also been
involved in curd business. At a time when she was looking
for a stable career and a skill that would help her get a
regular work, Advance electronics training came as a
blessing in disguise for her.
Training
sessions were not easy but as time passed, the subject was
beginning to get interesting. Days after the training were
even tougher. She worked in an electronic workshop at Thimi
initially and also took repair and maintenance work from her
friends, relatives and neighbours. During the fist few
months, she had to render the service at lower price or even
for free some time. However, this loss was compensated
because through these free services she was able to prove
herself and show her work amongst her potential clients.
Laxmi knew that if she continued to work unprofessionally,
she would never move ahead in life. Therefore, she decided
to open a shop in partnership with her friend. In order to
start the shop they borrowed money from their friends and
used their previous savings. Initially, clients use to come
to their shop and go away after realizing that girls were
the technicians but gradually with time, she has been able
to build confidence amongst people around. Things are not
the same anymore. “These girls are capable of doing good
work”, this is what many people around are heard saying.
Almost twelve months after the training, Laxmi is a more
confident technician. A well designed, effective and
employment oriented training is an individual’s weapon
against unemployment and laxmi is glad that she became a
part of this training event. The skills and knowledge
imbibed from it has helped her succeed in the labor market
and meet clients’ needs. It is hard work everyday but she
prides in being one of the very few women electronics
technicians in the country, who plays a critical part in the
enhancement of the living standard of her family and
subsequently contributes for the overall development of the
economy.
