Skill & Know-how Imparted at Local Level (SKILL)

Welcome to SKILL Nepal Website

Skill & Know-how Imparted at Local Level (SKILL) is a training and employment service providing organization established in March 1992. To compliment the formal training programme scenario set by the government and other private sectors, SKILL aimed to impart its employment-oriented training programmes in the informal sector to tap groups that do not have access to formal training programmes. Largely because government owned trade schools and private training institutes failed to intervene and reach the poorer segments of the populace, the idea of a mobile training approach originated. The approach focused on being demand-driven and gave on-the-spot training.

Eighteen years ago, SKILL had envisaged the prevailing situation of unemployment and had therefore initiated a unique mobile training approach to contribute in this sector. It has successfully implemented the outreach programme to the needy groups all over the country. Over the years, SKILL has consolidated its learning and designed this unique programme which has proved to “fit well” into the “local environment”.  Starting out small but with a clear vision, today SKILL has implemented programmes throughout the country in close collaboration with hundreds of local intermediaries and partners. Since its establishment, working together with 154 local partners and clientele organizations, SKILL conducted 501 trainings in 35 different technical and vocational trades covering 60 districts of Nepal (some as well in Bhutan) and produced over 9000 youth of whom 85% are gainfully employed – sustaining their livelihood, benefiting their service recipients as well as lubricating the economic base at the local level.
